GOP leadership to change: candidates encouraged
by Sublette County Republican Party
February 5, 2011
Sublette County Republican Party Chair Cat Urbigkit reports that the leadership of the county party will soon change, with elections to be held in early March.
Chairman Urbigkit and Vice Chairman Jim Latta have declined to seek re-election, making way for the county party to elect several new officers. The State Committeeman and State Committeewoman seats are also up for election, and are currently held by Joel Bousman and Mary Lankford, respectively.
"We have really enjoyed serving as county party officers this past four years, but it’s time for a change," Urbigkit said. "My hope is that as a few of us step aside, some of the young Republicans in the county will step up and seek election to these offices. We’re ready to pass the leadership reins to the next generation."
According to GOP bylaws, "The County Chairman, Vice Chairman, State Committeeman and State Committeewoman shall be elected by the County Central Committee at its March meeting in the odd numbered years to serve for a term of two years."
The county GOP secretary and treasurer are appointments made entirely at the discretion of the county chairman, so the county should expect changes in these seats as well. Laurie Latta currently serves as secretary, and Paul Scherbel as treasurer.
Only members of the Sublette County GOP Central Committee (or those carrying proper proxies) are eligible to vote on the election of officers, but any registered Republican in the county is welcome to seek election to a leadership seat. The GOP central committee will hold officer elections at its March 1 meeting at 6 p.m. in the county commission meeting room of the Sublette County Courthouse in Pinedale.
Candidates will be given the opportunity to address the GOP central committee prior to the voting, and are welcome to contact Urbigkit with any questions at catu2@mac.com or by leaving a message at 307-276-5393. Urbigkit is happy to email the list of voting members of the county central committee to any potential candidates.
