Bonnie Ellwood, EnCana environmental engineer, co-authored a paper detailing best practices in reducing emissions in the U.S. Ellwood’s contribution included a case study of successful EnCana practices in the Jonah Field. The paper, "Methane’s Role in Promoting Sustainable Development in the Oil and Natural Gas Industry" received one of two awards for Best Paper at the 24th annual World Gas Conference last month in Buenos Aires, Argentina. "This award proves EnCana’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability," said Ellwood. "Jonah Field is a key asset for EnCana and Wyoming. We take our environmental responsibility very seriously and work hard with our peers and stakeholders toward being the best in emission reductions. We’re very thrilled for this recognition." EnCana has been collaboratively working with other industry partners and the Environmental Protection Agency to put the Natural Gas STAR Program into effect. The program encourages companies to voluntarily implement emission-reducing practices and document their applications. EnCana’s active participation and partnership in the Natural Gas STAR Program spurred Ellwood’s paper. The tradition of the Best Paper award includes a two-step selection process and jury, established specifically for the final selection stage. The World Gas Conference received more than 240 papers for consideration. "EnCana strives to be a leader in exploring innovative technology that reinforces energy efficiency, and the groundbreaking efforts of Bonnie and the Jonah team keep us in the forefront," said Randy Teeuwen, EnCana community relations advisor. "We are extremely proud of Bonnie. She is a true example of a quality employee and team member who goes above and beyond to uphold EnCana principles and expectations."
