The Natural Resources Law Center at the University of Colorado Law School and partners have developed a comprehensive, free-access, searchable, web-based database of best management practices (BMPs) for the Intermountain West. The project is compiling BMPs intended to protect all of the surface resources affected by oil and gas development — air and water quality, soils, vegetation, visual aesthetics, tranquility, health and safety, wildlife and other resources.

The database currently includes over 4000 records of BMPs currently in use, required, and/or recommended for responsible resource management in Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

The database and website were designed and constructed with the advice/assistance of many project partners and advisors. The website lists more than 35 organizations and government agencies as contributors to the effort, including the Upper Green River Valley Coalition in Sublette County, Enercrest, BP, the Wyoming Game & Fish Department, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks and many others.
