(Big Piney) – The Big Piney Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest visited the Big Piney branch of the Sublette County Library last Thursday to put on a couple of fire prevention puppet shows. Two different puppet shows "The Careless Campers" and "Fire on My Feathers" were performed for the library’s pre-school story hour and the after school reading program. Both stories emphasize the importance of fire safety and the dangers of leaving campfires unattended. Nan Stinson, Fire Prevention/Education Specialist for the Big Piney and Pinedale Ranger Districts, says she has been doing the puppet shows for several years. "It’s a great way to entertain the kids and hold their attention while teaching them at the same time. It’s a lot of fun but we’re not going to win any Oscars!"
A total of about 65 children from pre-school through 5th grade attended the shows. The children then made their own stick puppets so they could create their own puppet show. Smokey Bear also made an appearance.
The production of "The Careless Campers" will be shown at the Pinedale Library for the pre-school story hour on April 14 and 16, 2009 from 10:00am to 10:30am.
