Fifth grader Olivia Pape, of Pinedale Middle School, is the winner of the 2008 Junior Musher Essay contest held by the Pinedale Stage Stop Committee and the Sublette County Library Foundation. Runner up essay winner is Laura Noble.
The Committee and the Library foundation are proud of the student participation of Aspen Shenefelt, Lily Jensen, Devan LaMere, Tiara Morgan, Liam Oswald, and Madeline Oswald.
Pape will represent Pinedale at the Quinn’s Sports Complex in Park City, Utah, on Saturday, February 7th, in the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Junior Race with mentor musher, Stacey Teasley of Jackson.
The junior musher race is a unique opportunity for kids to become involved in a great event. It's an opportunity for kids to participate in an internationally recognized event, learn the importance of volunteering, interact with others, and to have the chance to run a sled dog team. The sled dog race offers a positive environment where kids can witness a network of adult role models engaging in responsible behavior. Kids will experience support, enjoy a meaningful activity, and develop relationships with others. This event will help teach kids about the importance of community service. The Junior musher race will take place in Quinn's Sports Complex in Park City, Utah.
As an IPSSSDR Junior Musher, Olivia Pape will volunteer ten hours at Dr. Brent Dean’s Animal Clinic in Pinedale.
