The Pinedale Freshmen Volleyball season is off to a great start. They opened the season at the Cody Freshmen Tournament and ended up with a 2-2 record, although the Powell and Worland matches were very hard fought and close.
Next up was a conference match with Kemmerer which the green squad put away for victory number three. The Freshmen Lady Wranglers then hosted their own tournament on Saturday, September 13. Their excellent team play provided them with two wins and one loss. They beat Riverton in two games and then put away Jackson in three. They played Star Valley for the tournament championship and lost out two games to one in a great, intense match.
The team members include: Stephaine Straley, Cindi Shenefelt, Christina Silvey, Loni Wells, Sara Ritschel, Jalin McKinney, Erin Egle, Brielle Buchanan, Kristyann Brandewie, Kayla Grove, Hadley Pape, Matazie Brewer, Marissa Preece and Kelly Nystrom.
These young ladies are a joy to coach. They have great athleticism, intelligence, team chemistry and are very coachable. They continue to work on their team defense, transition and hit coverage. They have matches this week in Big Piney and Worland.
Next week’s action includes Jackson at home on Tuesday, September 23; Lyman at home on Friday, September 26; and then will be traveling to Lyman for a tournament on Saturday, September 27. This is one of the most talented groups of freshmen that I have had the privilege of coaching and I predict great things for them in the next three years.
