Callie and Sara Domek, two sisters from Cora, are encouraging all to participate in the upcoming free music and art festival in Pinedale, Wyoming on Saturday July 19th, 2008 in the American Legion Park.
The HeART of Sublette County is a non-profit community art collaboration organized by Callie and Sara Domek and supported through grants and personal donations.
The purpose of this project is to create a space for open expression about sense of place. The project invites people of all backgrounds within, or with ties to, Sublette County and surrounding areas to artistically share their diverse perspectives on the heart of this place, what it means to them, and their relationship to it. Everyone who makes up Sublette County holds a unique perspective to express in this project. It is our hope that citizens from all walks of life from the Sublette County area will share their input.
We are encouraging artists and non-artists, ranchers, business owners, health workers, teachers, students, visitors, hunters, hikers, neighbors, landowners, industry company representatives, oilfield workers, spiritual leaders, environmentalists, government employees, and others to create an expression about what it means to live in this place. A free festival for performances, readings, and explanations of each artist’s piece will occur in Pinedale on July 19th beginning at 10 am in the American Legion Park. The public is invited to attend and participate in this open festival. The festival will be an important part of our community’s dialogue in this project, and it will provide easy access for the public to see and hear from the contributing artists.
After the festival, the pieces and artists’ statements will continue to be shared in Pinedale, Big Piney, and Jackson in a traveling exhibition. Finally, a compilation booklet will share with the public all project entries, artists’ statements, and the philosophy and purpose behind this project.
The Heart of Sublette County holds great potential to allow people of different groups and various backgrounds to come together to explore and share their common values. We all desire the same basic values such as good health, a quality education for our children, a safe environment, clean air and water, beautiful surroundings, and a promising outlook on the future. It is our belief that these common values will show through people’s art. This commonness will open dialogue where it is so desperately needed during this time of rapid change in the Sublette County area.
