New Year's weekend will be cold, but sunny
More snow Thursday and Friday, then clearing
December 28, 2006
(Pinedale) New Year’s weekend will be sunny with temperatures in the teens and 20s. Night-time temperatures will drop well below zero. Before the cold hits, we’re expected to get several inches more snow in the Upper Green River Valley. Eastern Wyoming is expected to get hit with another major snowstorm, impacting road conditions for holiday travelers across the state.
A strong cold front will move south across Wyoming today producing 1-3 inches of snow in the valleys and mountains. Northerly winds of 20-30 mph will produce considerable blowing and drifting snow across the state. Anyone traveling over mountain passes should be prepared for winter driving conditions, snow-packed and icy roads, and limited visibility at times. (Check the WYDOT web cams to see current conditions and the Road Report for updates on highway conditions.)
Weather conditions will improve across the state Friday and into the weekend, but temperatures are expected to be 10 to 20 degrees colder in some areas behind this latest front. Low temperatures will likely drop to 10-15 degrees below zero in the western basins and valleys by Saturday morning.
