2007 Hunting Season Begins

In a way, the 2007 hunting season has started. More than 85,000, 2007 big game application booklets have been mailed to the nonresidents who applied for Wyoming big game licenses last year.
Hunters are alerted there is now a separate period of July 1 - September 30 for purchasing only a preference point, without being entered in the license drawing. Nonresidents wanting to just buy a moose, bighorn sheep, elk, deer or antelope preference point and residents purchasing moose or bighorn sheep points will need to submit the application during the July 1 - September 30 period.
"This new period will benefit both hunters and the Game and Fish," said Jean Cole, License Section supervisor for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. "If hunters did not select the preference point option when they applied for their limited quota draw licenses in the initial application period, they will still have time to apply for and purchase a point in the summer to make sure they do not get behind on their points. The later period also helps spread out the work load for our license employees."
Prospective nonresident hunters needing an application booklet should contact (307) 777-4600 or write WGFD, 5400 Bishop Blvd., Cheyenne, WY 82006. Booklets can also be downloaded from the Game and Fish web site at http://gf.state.wy.us. Hunters will also have the option of applying for big game licenses via the Internet beginning in 2007.
Nonresident license application periods begin January 1 and close January 31 for elk, February 28 for moose and bighorn sheep and March 15 for deer and antelope.
Resident hunters can pick up application booklets at license agents and Game and Fish offices beginning in January.
