During a very snowy weekend at the Grand Targhee Resort, Pinedale athletes joined forces with top athletes from schools around the state to represent Team Wyoming in the 2025 Western US Alpine Skiing High School Championship March 12-15th. Competition was extremely strong, with teams from as far away as California and Minnesota.
Both Wyoming Boys’ and Girls’ teams, with Pinedale athletes, took 4th among the nine teams. James Tolson put down two great runs, skiing to 16th place in the Slalom event among some of the best high school skiers in the Western US. Dune Mecartney skied a career best at this event, placing 30th. Destin Williams came in 38th of 90 participants. While Garrett Saunders skied very well, he crashed in the second run.
For the Girls’ Team, Ellie Tolson put two greats runs together, finishing 28th. Nora Broadhead finished her senior year showing her solid, reliable skiing to 59th place.
In the Giant Slalom, James Tolson took 27th, Tristan Robertson took 34th, Dune Mecartney took 47th, Destin Williams was 48th, and Garrett Saunders was 52nd.
For the Girls’ Team, Ellie Tolson crashed on her first run, but was able to help score points on her second run with a 33rd place finish on that run. Nora Broadhead skied to 59th.
This was a fantastic opportunity for Wyoming skiers to meet and compete with top high school athletes in the Western US, and for great camaraderie among Wyoming’s athletes and coaches. Coaches Jeff Wohl and Dan Williams were extremely proud of how Team Wyoming did, especially the Pinedale athletes, competing against much bigger ski programs.
We look forward to a great race season in 2025/26 and hope to bring Pinedale athletes to the next Western High School Championship in Colorado.
